(May 18, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a paving project Monday, May 22, on MD 611 (Stephen Decatur Highway) between the Verrazano Bridge over the Sinepuxent Bay and MD 376 (Assateague Road) in Worcester County. The project should be completed by the end of June, weather permitting.

Snow Hill, Maryland (May 8, 2023) – The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) denied the request to exempt residents in the Ocean Pines Sanitary Service Area (SSA) from paying the Bay Restoration Fee (BRF) for calendar year 2023.

Worcester County Government (WCG) offices, including all five Branch Libraries and Recreation and Parks, will be closed Monday, May 29, 2023, for the Memorial Day holiday. The Central Landfill and Homeowner Convenience Centers will also be closed.

WCG offices will resume standard operating hours on Tuesday, May 30. WCG staff wish one and all a happy and safe holiday weekend.

Snow Hill, Maryland (May 1, 2023): Effective immediately, the outdoor burning ban in Worcester County is being lifted.

“Due to the significant amounts of rainfall throughout the county during the weekend, the drought conditions have improved, and the burn ban has been lifted,” Fire Marshal Matt Owens said. 

Snow Hill, Maryland – Effective Monday, April 24, 2023, ALL outdoor burning will be banned for an indefinite period of time in Worcester County.  Worcester County Fire Marshal Matthew Owens issued the burn ban. 

“Due to the county’s current dry conditions, the burn ban is effective starting April 24,” Fire Marshal Owens said. “This ban should reduce the number of out-of-control, outside fires, which cause safety concerns for area residents, visitors, and especially responding fire personnel.” 

Snow Hill, Maryland – The Worcester County Commissioners invite the public to attend a hearing on the requested FY24 County Operating Budget and the proposed real property tax rate of $0.845 per $100 of assessment. The hearing will take place at the Worcester County Government Center in Snow Hill on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 7 p.m. The meeting will also be streamed live at https://worcestercountymd.swagit.com/live. Worcester County Public Works Water and Wastewater (WWW) Division will conduct smoke testing of the sanitary sewer system from April 12-21, 2023 between Keyser Point Road and West Torquay Road.

This study will involve opening and entering manholes in the streets and public utility easements to locate breaks and defects in the sewer system. The smoke will also reveal where storm and other surface water enters the sewer system. 

The Water and Wastewater Division of Public Works will begin its semi-annual program for flushing waterlines in Assateague Pointe, Edgewater Acres, Nantucket Point, Deer Point, Landings, Mystic Harbour, Newark, Ocean Reef, and West Ocean City Service Areas between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
