Worcester County student Angelle Ayres was recently named a finalist for the Quanta Service Junior Varsity Rodeo Team. This prestigious team includes 20 of the top high school students from across the country. Ayres is a Stephen Decatur High School student who aspires to become a veterinarian, with a focus on large animals.
Newark Water Treatment Plant - Tues., Aug. 13.: crews will be repairing a filter leak. Homeowner’s in the Newark Sanitary Service Area may experience brown water from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. that same day. Worcester County Water Department staff will flush the lines following repairs, which should clear the lines and eliminate any brown water. However, residents are urged to turn on their faucets and let the water run to confirm it is clear prior to use.
Snow Hill, Maryland – With rain in the forecast for Friday, August 9, 2024, Worcester County Fair Festivities will move indoors to the recreation center in Snow Hill for day one of the three-day fair, with the Matthew Street Band to perform live on the main stage from 6-8 p.m.
The Worcester County Commissioners, joined by Worcester County Public Schools representatives and Worcester County Recreation and Parks staff, celebrated the completion of the new basketball courts and park at Pocomoke Middle School with a ribbon cutting Tuesday.
Snow Hill, Maryland (July 18, 2024) – Beginning August 1, 2024, Worcester County Public Works crews will begin removing roadside snipe signs from within public rights-of-way.
Snipe signs are off-premises signs that are tacked, nailed, posted, pasted, glued, or otherwise attached to trees, poles, stakes, fences, or to other objects. Snipe signs are not permitted in any public right-of-way, which is either state or county-owned land.
Patey Woods Road – starting Tues., July 23, a portion of Patey Woods Road will be closed while crews replace a failed crossroad pipe. Repairs should take two days to complete.

The basketball court and mini pitch are comprised of two basketball courts that can also be used as one basketball court and one soccer pitch. The park is recommended for children and adults and is open to the public outside of school hours and when organized programming is not taking place.
August 3-11 is Agriculture Week in Worcester County. The commissioners issued a proclamation to area farmers and Worcester County Tourism and Economic Development (WCTED) professionals on Tuesday to promote a number of farming activities to take place countywide that week, beginning with the Blessing of the Combines and culminating with the Greater Pocomoke Fair and Worcester County Fair.
