Worcester County Government Offices, Libraries and Recreation & Parks closed Monday, January 15th

Worcester County Government offices, including all five Branch Libraries and Recreation and Parks, will be closed Monday, January 15, 2024, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Normal business hours will resume Tuesday, January 16.

The Central Landfill and Homeowner Convenience Centers will be open Monday during standard hours of operation.

Applications Available Online for Non-Profit Grants from Worcester County Government

Snow Hill, Maryland (January 9, 2024) – Worcester County Government (WCG) is accepting grant applications from area non-profit agencies now through Monday, February 5, 2024.

Applications are available to download as a PDF at www.co.worcester.md.us. Once there, the link to the Non-Profit Grant Application can be found under “Important Links” on the right-hand side of the web page.

Inclement Weather and Camera Link to Rt. 12 Pocomoke River Bridge in Snow Hill

Tues. afternoon into Wed. a.m. - Worcester is expecting up to 1 ½ - 2 inches of rain, 30 to 50 MPH winds, with gusts up to 65 MPH, and nuisance flooding along the coast and low-lying areas prone to flooding.

Rain and wind will increase throughout the evening, with the highest winds anticipated around 10 p.m.

If you must travel, use caution.

High Winds and Coastal Flooding Expected Tuesday, January 9th

Jan. 9-10, Tuesday morning - Wed. morning - Worcester County is expecting 30-50 MPH winds, with gusts up to 70 MPH, with nuisance flooding along the coast and low-lying areas. Rain and wind will start Tuesday morning and increase throughout the day, with the highest winds and rain around 6 p.m.

Use caution if traveling, bring pets inside, secure outdoor objects like trash bins and outdoor furniture. 

South Point Boat Ramp Closed for Bulkhead Replacement Project

The county boat ramp at South Point, which is located at the end of South Point Road off MD Rt. 611 in Berlin, is closed for rehabilitation work. The boat ramp is tentatively scheduled to reopen March 1, 2024.

This two-month project will include replacing the bulkhead. Project funding is available through Waterway Improvement Grants (WIG) from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and assigned designated funds from Worcester County.

Worcester County offers Christmas tree recycling to residents

The Solid Waste Division of Worcester County Public Works will host its annual collection of Christmas trees now through January 15, 2024. Area residents can drop off Christmas trees at the Central Landfill in Newark and the Berlin, Pocomoke, and Snow Hill Homeowners Convenience Centers at no cost.

Businesses and organizations that sold trees will not be permitted to drop off trees at the convenience centers, but may take them to the Central Landfill where applicable tipping fees will be assessed.

Worcester County Government New Year Holiday Schedule

Snow Hill, Maryland (December 29, 2023) – The following Worcester County Government (WCG) offices will be closed Monday, January 1, 2024, New Year’s Day: Worcester County Government Center, Cape Isle of Wight satellite offices, Central Landfill in Newark and the Homeowner Convenience Centers in Berlin, Snow Hill, and Pocomoke.

All Worcester County Branch Libraries and the Worcester County Recreation Center (WCRC) in Snow Hill will be closed January 1.

Shingle Landing Road Paving

Starting Friday, Dec. 22, Roads Division contractor Allan Myers will begin paving Shingle Landing Road in Bishopville. Because this road is so narrow, it will be closed to thru traffic during paving. Flaggers will be positioned to assist motorists through the work zone.
