Celebrate Economic Development Week with Worcester County

Residents and visitors alike are invited to join Worcester County Tourism and Economic Development (WCTED) to celebrate Maryland Economic Development Week, October 20–24, 2025.

Throughout the week, WCTED, in partnership with the Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA), will showcase how local and state partnerships work together to strengthen communities by attracting new residents, supporting local businesses, and creating opportunities for growth and investment.

Waterline flushing schedule for Mystic Harbour and other area water systems

The Water and Wastewater Division of Public Works will begin its semi-annual program for flushing waterlines in Assateague Pointe, Edgewater Acres, Nantucket Pointe, Deer Point, Landings, Mystic Harbour, Newark, Ocean Reef, Sea Oaks, Riddle Farm and West Ocean City Service Areas between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The following proposed Fall 2025 dates for the flushing of the waterlines are subject to change.

Commissioners Appoint Starzhevskiy as New Deputy Finance Officer

Snow Hill, Maryland – The Worcester County Commissioners named Ondrea Starzhevskiy as the new deputy finance officer. Starzhevskiy brings 14 years of accounting expertise, including seven years as a director, to this position. Her extensive experience in municipal finance, strategic budgeting, and intergovernmental coordination align well with the County’s financial leadership goals.

Worcester County to Host Citizens Scrap Tire Drop-Off Day October 4

The Worcester County Commissioners and the Public Works Recycling Division will host Citizens Scrap Tire Drop-Off Day on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. This event will take place at the Central Landfill in Newark.

“Recycling old and unwanted tires plays an important role in diverting waste from the landfill and increases recycling rates countywide,” Recycling Manager Bob Keenan said.

Donation to High School Automotive Program Gives New Purpose to Retired County Vehicles

Snow Hill, Maryland – On Wednesday, September 4, 2025, state, county, and school officials met outside of the Automotive Technology (AT) garage bays at Worcester Technical High School (WTHS) to exchange the keys and titles to four retired Chevy Tahoe SUVs.

The handover occurred after the Worcester County Commissioners voted unanimously to donate these high-mileage, county vehicles to the AT program instead of selling them for a nominal one-time return through an online auction marketplace.

Worcester County Library Seeks Board Members to Represent Pocomoke and Ocean City

The Worcester County Library Board of Trustees is seeking a Worcester County resident to volunteer for a Board vacancy representing Pocomoke City including areas beyond the town limits. In addition, an opening representing Ocean City will be available January 2026.  The Library Board is composed of seven members who reside in the various communities and towns in the county. Candidates should be passionate about the important role the Worcester County Library plays in our community.

Worcester County Government offices closed Labor Day, September 1

Worcester County Government (WCG) offices, including the Worcester County Recreation Center and the five branch libraries, will be closed Monday, September 1, 2025, for the Labor Day holiday.

The Central Landfill and Homeowner Convenience Centers will also be closed.

WCG offices will resume standard operating hours on Tuesday, September 2. WCG staff wish one and all a happy and safe holiday weekend.

Temporary Water Outage Ivanhoe Court in OP Tuesday, Aug. 26

There will be a temporary water outage while crews replace a water service line in the area of 22 Ivanhoe Court on Tuesday, August 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This outage will impact roughly 50 homes in the vicinity of the intersection of Clubhouse Drive and Ocean Parkway to the intersection of Clubhouse Drive and Sundial Circle and all of Ivanhoe Court.
